Medieval Tapestries; King Arthur And His Love Of Camelot

The story of King Arthur and his love of Camelot figured into several major medieval tapestries.William Morris can be the deciding factor for all these wonderful and beautiful tapestries. They were also displayed in cathedrals, palaces, public buildings for all to see. The weaving’s were telling stories of what was going on way back then… like a newspaper of sorts were the tapestries of those days. Most all tapestries told a story regardless of the theme.

The Medieval tapestries were because of the work and influence of William Morris (who is also most famous for the Tree of Life Tapestries), an English artist who made several tapestry pieces in the 19th century. Many of his works featured figures from the Arthurian legend. Among those he made with Edward Burne-Jones and John Henry Dearle, are popular up to this day. Perhaps the main reason for prominence of the Arthurian legend in tapestry is that its themes and stories encompasses several aspects of the Medieval era.
